4 - 5 Jan 2017

OpenModelica is a state of the art, equation oriented, modelling and simulation platform. It is open source and completely free. It is developed by Prof. Peter Fritzson and his computer science team at Linkoping University, Sweden. It is a bootstrapped compiler - i.e., it can compile itself. Please visit https://www.openmodelica.org/ for more information.

The FOSSEE project supports OpenModelica in a big way in India, through Spoken Tutorials, Textbook Companions, Virtual Labs, Hardware in the Loop Simulation, Development of a Chemical Process Simulator using OpenModelica, etc.

  1. Windows users may download from https://openmodelica.org/download/download-windows (1GB)
  2. Mac OS X users may download from https://build.openmodelica.org/omc/builds/mac/binaries/ (625MB)
  3. Instructions for Linux users are here: https://openmodelica.org/download/download-linux
3 Bring an ear phone/head phone - to listen to tutorials, explained next. The ear phone that came with your mobile phone will do.
4 Download and learn OpenModelica from Spoken Tutorials
  1. Download from here.
  2. Open index.html file using Firefox/Chrome - do not use IE (IE may NOT work).
  3. Listen to the "Side-by-Side Method to Learn Spoken Tutorials".
  4. Select "Foss Category" as OpenModelica and Select "Language Category" as English and "Submit". You will see 11 numbered Spoken Tutorials.
  5. Practise as many tutorials as you can (at least the first 3). All tutorials, except the first, have one or more code files, with an extension .mo - open the .mo file using OpenModelica and practise side-by-side.
If you do not do item 4 above (i.e. practising with Spoken Tutorials), you may have to do that at IIT Bombay. Those who do this item and come prepared, can attend the advanced workshop to be conducted by Prof. Peter Fritzson.
