FOSSEE Centre

FOSSEE Centre is any institution who support and promote the various activities of the FOSSEE project. We welcome your contributions to the FOSSEE supported free and open source software (FOSS) through the FOSSEE Centres. In addition the club can also undertake events that are based on any of the software supported by FOSSEE. Prior approval from the FOSSEE Project is required to conduct such events.
The FOSSEE Centre is valid for one year from the date of approval and may be renewed thereafter, subject to the prevailing guidelines given be the FOSSEE Project.
A college can become a FOSSEE centre*, when they fulfill the following requirements:
- For the smooth functioning of the FOSSEE centre, the college needs to nominate faculty coordinator(s) who are enthusiastic about open source software. This faculty member will be one point of contact for the FOSSEE project.
- The college/Institute should reach out to a minimum 50% of the annual intake of students to the college/ institute, through the various activities listed below.
- We shall need a quarterly update from the FOSSEE club regarding the contributions made by the college.
*Please note that this will be renewed every year.
- Mention of the names of the college and the faculty coordinator on the FOSSEE webpage
- An annual letter of appreciation awarded to the college based on its contributions
- An annual letter of appreciation awarded to the faculty coordinator
- Awards given to the top performing institutions
- Awards given to the faculty coordinator who has done exceptional contributions
- Improved NAAC and NIRF accreditation
Following are some of the activities the FOSSEE club/centre can contribute to. If there are any other activities the FOSSEE center is interested in, we can explore the possibilities to collaborate.
- Orientation session for the new incoming students (Institute level): around 2 hours (Minimum 200 students)
- Conduct workshops for students in FOSSEE supported software (across departments, each workshop to have a minimum of 50 students)
- Lab Migration and use the FOSS code for a full semester (any software)
- Encourage students to participate in activities like Case studies/ simulations/flowsheeting across any FOSSEE-supported software
- Include FOSSEE-supported software/ resources in the institute/ college credit course / value added course
- Contribute to any of the FOSSEE activities through course assignments
- Have more than 5 team submissions in Hackathons/ Marathons/ Mapathons, etc.
- Award academic credits to students who complete FOSSEE internships/ fellowships
- Conduct events like hackathons/ marathons on FOSSEE supported software, in collaboration with FOSSEE
- Mention FOSSEE as the open source partner in the curriculum
