  • Virtual Boot Camp for NASA Space App Challenge: Awareness session on R, OpenFOAM and Scilab:

    An awareness session on R, OpenFOAM and Scilab was conducted by the FOSSEE team for the Virtual Boot Camp for NASA Space App Challenge 2023, which is the largest annual space & science hackathon in the world. Space Apps is an international hackathon for coders, scientists, designers, storytellers, makers, builders, technologists, and others in cities around the world, where teams engage with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) free and open data to address real-world problems on Earth and in space.This event was organised by Sandip University on 30 Sept 2024.

  • FDP on FLOSS (Free/Libre and Open Source Software) for Mumbai University affiliated Colleges:
    The FOSSEE Project along with Maharashtra College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Mumbai organised a one day faculty development programme on FLOSS (Free/Libre and Open Source Software) for Mumbai University affiliated Colleges on 13 July 2024. The venue was the F. C. Kohli Auditorium, IIT Bombay. Around 80 faculty members from various colleges in the Mumbai region attended the programme. The main themes were the FOSSEE initiatives like FOSSEE-GIS, OpenHardware, and Spoken Tutorials.

  • Awareness Session for Students and Faculty of MIT Pune:

    An awareness Session for students and faculty members of MIT Pune was jointly organised with the FOSSEE team on 11 July 2024. This was an online session. The FOSSEE resource people talked about the various software supported by the FOSSEE Project. They also explained how the students and faculty members  can contribute and get the benefits. There were approximately 50 participants in the event.

  • eSim Hands-on Workshop at Pune FOSS 4.0:

    The eSim hands-on workshop was conducted at Pune FOSS 4.0 on 20 June 2026. The workshop focused on introducing participants to eSim and its applications in open-source Electronic Design Automation (EDA) for circuit design and simulation. The workshop provided practical exposure to eSim workflows and demonstrated its role in academic learning and research activities. The session was conducted by Mr. Sumanto Kar from the eSim team and witnessed active participation from attendees (Around 50). The workshop encouraged interaction and discussions around open-source technologies and provided participants with hands-on learning experience.

  • Talk on "eSim: An Open Source CAD Software for Circuit Simulation":

    A talk on eSim: An Open Source CAD Software for Circuit Simulation was presented at ETH Zurich on 11 June 2024 by Prof. Kannan Moudgalya, the Principal Investigator of the FOSSEE Project. The talk began with an introduction to Spoken Tutorials, the methodology developed by the speaker for large scale training on IT topics. The talk also gave an overview of FOSSEE's activities with specific focus on eSim. The talk was attended the groups of Prof. Luca Benini and Prof. Mathieu Luisier from ETH Zurich.

  • Keynote address at first UK-India OpenFOAM Symposium:

    The first UK-India OpenFOAM Symposium was organised in the online mode on June 7-8, 2024. This event was jointly organised by the University of Birmingham & Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur under the aegis of National Supercomputing Mission. The keynote address covered the ways in which the FOSSEE project is reaching out to both academia and industry in promotind OpenFOAM.

  • National Level Faculty Development Program on Opportunities in Geospatial Technologies :

    The National Level Faculty Development Program on Opportunities in Geospatial Technologies & Launch of Geospatial Mapathon and Hackathon 2024 was conducted on May 13, 2024 (full day). This was conducted in a hybrid mode with around 40 participants joining us on campus and around 60 participants online. We also launched the Geospatial Mapathon and IoT Hackathon 2024 in this event. The event was also attended by Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, Department of Science & Technology, Prof. Shireesh B. Kedare, Director, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and Prof. Karbhari Vishwanath Kale, Vice Chencellor, Dr. Babasaheb Amdedkar Technological University, Maharashtra and Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir Agricultural University of Science and Technology, Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. The formal launch of Geospatial Mapathon 2024 and Geospatial IoT Hackathon 2024 were done by Prof. Karbhari Vishwanath Kale and Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, respectively.   • Open Hardware-IoT Geospatial Hackathon:

    The National Level Open Hardware-IoT Geospatial Hackathon was a premier event that brought together visionaries, tech enthusiasts, and problem solvers from across the nation to harness the power of open hardware, the Internet of Things (IoT), and Geospatial technology. This was a stage where innovation knew no boundaries. The technical partner for this event was the Rural Data Research and Analysis (RuDRA) Lab at IIT Bombay which is India's first HPC-powered data center dedicated to Rural Development. The co organisers were IITTNiF (NM-ICPS, DST, Government of India) & ICFOSS (Government of Kerala). A set of problem statements were given to the participants. The winners were announced on 11 November 2024, on National Education Day. 22 teams qualified in the final round and one was awarded as the champion.   • Meet & Greet session for DWSIM:

    The FOSSEE Project conducts awareness sessions called Meet & Greet, for faculty members of various institutes to get familiarise with the software promoted by the FOSSEE project. On 12 April 2024, such a session was conducted for DWSIM, in the online mode. The experts from the FOSSEE team talked about the software and ways in which students and faculty members can participate in FOSSEE activities. The contributions are released in open source and serve as a good documentation for the software. More than 80 faculty members attended the event both from India and abroad. We have identified some faculty members who are interested in using DWSIM in their institutes. We are following up with them.

  • Animate 2024:
    ANIMATE 2024 was an online Synfig Studio 2D Animation Hackathon organized by the FOSSEE Project, IIT Bombay. The project is a part of the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India. The other event partners were Whistling Woods International (WWI) a premier Film, Communication & Creative Arts Institute, Srishti Manipal Institute of Art, Design and Technology, an institute of global excellence providing high quality education in the fields of art and the Spoken Tutorial Project, a multi-award winning educational content portal. 
     
    India is known for its creativity and resourcefulness, with innovation happening everywhere, from busy cities to quiet villages. To highlight and celebrate India's innovative spirit the theme for Animate 2024 was “Celebrating India's Innovation”. The participants had to showcase a problem, the action taken, and the innovative solution presented.
     
    The registrations for Animate 2024 started on 18 March 2024. Due to examinations and other academic commitments f the participants the deadline for the submission of completed animations was extended till 23 June 2024. Thus, students got around 3 months to learn (if not already familiar with the software) and create the animation. The submitted animations were judged in two stages, one for the technical aspects and the second on the creative and innovative aspects. Out of the 116 animations submitted 35 animations were send for the second round of evaluations and the winners were decided.
